Gladys Chinyere Nwaka

Mrs. Nwaka is a highly experienced Consultant Dietitian with 15 years of expertise in the administration of Medical Nutrition Therapy. She currently serves as the Principal Dietitian at the National Hospital Abuja, where she has played a pivotal role in advancing nutrition-related care. Throughout her career, she has worked in numerous hospitals and medical facilities, contributing to the improvement of health outcomes through diet and nutrition.

A member of the Institute for Dietetics in Nigeria (IDN) and the Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN), Mrs. Nwaka is well-respected in the nutrition and dietetics community. She has received extensive training in key areas, including maternal and child nutrition, nutrition for health promotion, disease prevention, diabetes management, HIV/AIDS care, and critically ill patient nutrition support.

Mrs. Nwaka’s expertise extends to several specialized fields, including strategies to improve maternal and child nutrition in Nigeria, nutrition in the management of communicable diseases, and breastfeeding and infant feeding in the context of HIV (with UNICEF). She is also skilled in the formulation of enteral feeds for critically ill patients and has contributed significantly to the development of nutrition support strategies for individuals with chronic health conditions.

Throughout her career, she has delivered numerous presentations on diet-related conditions, advocating for lifestyle modifications aimed at healthy living. Her work extends beyond clinical practice, as she regularly participates in public and media enlightenment programs, furthering the message of nutrition’s vital role in overall health.

In 2008, she was recognized for her outstanding contributions with the award for Best Staff in her Department at the National Hospital Abuja. She continues to be a dedicated professional, committed to improving nutrition practices and promoting healthy lifestyles across Nigeria.
